The following article is a follow-up to the Human Interests Breast Cancer 60K Walk article from the 2nd Quarter Issue of OrtivusTALK
Remember me? My name is Josée Gagnon and last August 25th and 26th, I walked 60 km for breast cancer awareness.
What a wonderful experience! I never thought that the walk itself would be so easy. All those long hours of training really paid off, but I was really not prepared for the emotional part of it!
It was overwhelming to be part of 2,563 walkers that joined together for the same cause. We raised at total of $7.9 million. I personally raised $2,291.
The walk lasted two days, and along the path, we met so many women crying, saying thanks for doing this for them. All those women are fighting against that terrible disease. It was an emotional experience to realize the impact of this disease on their lives, but it gave us the courage to continue to walk until we reached the finishing line. There were a lot of people waiting for us, cheering and telling us how courageous we were - I couldn’t hold back my tears.
This experience made me realize that by doing this, I played a role in making a difference in the lives of these women. For that, I’m very grateful and proud.
To all those who supported me and cheered me on… thank you! I’ll be back in 2008!
