What Is A Webinar And Why Should I
Care?
Is your company interested in saving money? Interested in continuing
education for their employees? Interested in staying abreast of industry news
and trends? If so, then you should care about webinars.
New technologies continue to change the way we do things - at an
increasingly rapid rate. Webinars – or Web-based seminars/presentations –
allow people the opportunity to learn from the convenience of their own
office or home. With shrinking budgets, rising costs of travel, and the ever
increasing busy-ness in schedules, people are looking for better options for
gaining information. Webinars offer a forum that eliminates travel costs and
consumes only a fraction of the time that an event at a physical location
does, therefore, popularizing this method of gaining information. In
addition, it adds much of the same interactivity of a face-to-face
presentation, and thus contributes much more value than simply an article,
white paper or email.
What is a Webinar?
A webinar (web + seminar) is a great way to learn from others – regardless
of what state or county they live in - without having to travel. With just a
phone and a computer, anyone can participate in these events. If bandwith
allows, the phone can be eliminated and the participant can listen via voice
over IP through their computer speakers. The webinars combine several forms
of communication and interaction, such as viewing online presentations,
instant messaging for question and answer sessions, the ability to 'raise
your hand' for a question, voting on issues, drawing on a 'white board,’
sharing out desktops and applications and documents and so forth. Click here for more

What Is RSS?
Communication advancements have taken our
society from communicating via letter through the courier or postal
system…to talking to anyone around the world via telephone…to sending emails
over the internet…to perhaps the latest communication advancement – RSS.
Many people are not yet aware of this emerging form of communication.
Really Simple Syndication – or RSS – is a ‘feed’ of information that a
subscriber receives which in turn is usually linked back to a Web page with
additional information on the topic. RSS feeds are beneficial because they
can change as often as the owner deems appropriate to deliver the latest
information. A subscriber can delete the feed at any point and the concept
of “opt-in only” eliminates the potential of this communication method
becoming polluted with SPAM. The flexibility of choosing which RSS feeds a
person subscribes to is comparable to a person being able to customize their
morning newspaper and have only the headlines and articles of interest
featured in the publication.
The difference, however, is that because of
the internet platform, the headlines can be updated several times a day to
deliver – truly – the most up-to-date information.
Ortivus North America (NA) published their first RSS feed on October 24,
2005. The Ortivus NA feed will contain the latest information on company
news, products, services – such as upcoming webinars, as well as important
EMS and Public Safety industry news. Ortivus NA views their RSS feed service
as another means of offering a convenient tool for distributing important
information to our customers and to the world at large.
As new technologies emerge, Ortivus NA is committed to evaluating the
benefits they can offer in improved customer service, as well as products.
