A Little Bit About NEMSIS

by Karla Hageman
National Sales Representative

NEMSIS seems to be on everyone's mind lately. Our sales team has heard "are you NEMSIS compliant?” more than a few times. The answer? Soon!

Ortivus is currently working on programming changes to support NEMSIS compliance, which is scheduled for release later this year. (See more details from Dan Voss, our Product Manager, on the 5.3 release article.) Once the coding for NEMSIS is completed, the exports for individual states must be customized. Each Sweet-Billing/Station customer will need to purchase the appropriate run sheet module to enable submission of data to your state. Some customers already have this module; call your sales representative to verify if you need to purchase this module.

With NEMSIS coming, it's another reminder that electronic patient care reporting is becoming more important. If you haven't considered our Sweet-Field Data software, now is the time to do this! Call your sales rep to set up a remote demo of the software. We can show you how Sweet-Field Data and Sweet-Billing seamlessly integrate, populating 95% of the call into your billing program. A copy of the patient care report (PCR) is stored in the billing program for easy access for years to come.

The Medicare Remittance Advice Module can save you hours. (Requires the batch credits module for use.) This module allows you to receive the Medicare EOMB electronically and auto post into your batch credits screen. You also have the option to auto deposit your Medicare check.

The Attachments Module is becoming very popular. This module allows you to scan a document, save the file and attach a hyperlink to this file. Examples: this could be used for PCR's, signature documents, HIPAA forms, etc.

Remember, almost all modules can be turned on for a short trial period. This allows you to determine the value of the module for your organization. There is no cost for this trial; all you need to do is call your sales rep and they can activate the trial module.

Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) is a very economical way to assist in managing your fleet. How many times have you asked yourself, “Where are my vehicles?” or, “If I had known that they were that close to a call, I would have sent that vehicle.” Knowing the location of your vehicles quickens response times, reduces fuel consumption, assists in the dispatch center, and may reduce your cost of insurance. Ortivus offers AVL as a standalone package, or in conjunction with Sweet-CAD.

For the services that seek a standalone option, Ortivus offers a software solution called GoTrack which utilizes the Nextel phone i730. Now, in addition to using a phone for voice, paging and radio, you can also use it for AVL.

Please contact your sales representative at 800-537-3927 for additional information on any of these software products/modules that have repeatedly demonstrated the benefits to ambulance services like yours.
