SQL Maintenance Plans, What Are They, Do I Need One?
by Ann Bodensteiner, Ortivus Team Lead/Senior Project Manager/Support Service Rep.

Ann BodensteinerAll Ortivus products are based on SQL Server. The bulk of the data captured by our applications is stored in SQL Server. The database files for SQL Server (*.mdf and *.ldf) are always in use by SQL Server – even if no one is using the database.

A SQL Maintenance plan is a management tool that is available in SQL to create automatic backups and perform routine maintenance on the SQL databases automatically. This tool is only available if you own a full version of SQL Server.

The Sweet-Billing program, by default, creates a backup of the database the first time you log in on a given day. If you have a full version of SQL Server you may wish to disable that morning backup and set SQL up with a maintenance plan to create the backup at night. The advantage of creating the backup at night is that it can capture any data entry that was entered during that day. Your IT person can set up the SQL maintenance plan. If you wish to disable the automatic backup that Sweet-Billing creates in the morning, contact Ortivus Support Services for assistance.

If you have Sweet-CAD or Fusion ePCR, you will already have a full version of SQL server and a maintenance plan set up.

Getting Friendly With Fusion
by Kelly Rothlisberger, Team Lead/Product Analyst

Kelly RothlisbergerHopefully, the Christmas tree is down, the decorations have been carefully put away, and presents are being enjoyed. With the start of the New Year, it’s time to think about planning for 2010 and a new product. While my tree STIILL isn’t down, planning for the 2010 rollout of Fusion ePCR is in full swing. Ortivus Support Services has tools to help you start ‘getting friendly’ with Fusion ePCR.

There is a new section in the Recorded Classes section devoted to Fusion ePCR. Underneath the new section are two choices for the user- either Configuration Tool or Client. Configuration tool is the brain of Fusion - where fields are configured and options added for field selection. Configuration Tool classes are designed for the administrator of the ePCR program. Recorded classes in the Client section are designed to help the user navigate the application from the perspective of a user documenting response information. New classes are added often so check back frequently for new information.

Enjoy!
