Camp Kathy: Boot Camp for Beginning Billers

Sherry Jiras, an ambulance biller with SE Iowa Ambulance Service, Inc. in Iowa City, Iowa, started in her position just two months ago – and with no prior billing experience. As many experienced ambulance billers know, the responsibilities and lengthy learning curve that comes along with this position, as well as learning all the government and industry rules and regulations, can be quite overwhelming. Luckily, Sherry is a quick learner. However, she does have one piece of advice to pass along to other “beginning” billers… Camp Kathy: Boot Camp for Beginning Billers!

Sherry began with learning some basic information and billing practices from her supervisor on January 3rd, 2006 – her start date. Three weeks later, she enrolled in Camp Kathy, and spent about three hours learning the Sweet-Billing program, as well as a few additional pieces of information that wasn’t necessarily expected. “I had some basic knowledge that I learned from my supervisor, but I learned a lot from Kathy. Surprisingly, I also learned a few things about some of our policies that needed a little ‘polishing’,” said Sherry.

Camp Kathy: Boot Camp for Beginning Billers is a new offering from Ortivus University, which features various data entry and hands-on exercises for billing users that have a very basic understanding of Sweet-Billing. The program is designed so that participants become more familiar with: logging in, through the program, critical codes vs. basic codes, data entry (one call and one patient), the help system, hot keys, and how to expedite their call when calling for technical support.

Sherry said that this class was very helpful, and she appreciated how thorough Kathy was. “Kathy took the time to make sure I understood everything,” said Sherry. “She was awesome! In fact, I asked to speak with her supervisor immediately after the class to tell her just how great Kathy did.”

For more information about Camp Kathy or to sign up for the class, call or email your Ortivus sales representative: 800-537-3927 or sales@ortivusna.com.
