Would you like a little friendly advice from
an owner of a successful medical transport organization? Danny Wildman,
co-owner of LifeCare Medical Transport, was kind enough to share some of
his insight that helped LifeCare become what it is today - a thriving
emergency medical service (EMS) company that covers 20,000 square miles
in Virginia and employs over 275 EMS professionals.
Service information: We just celebrated our 11 year
anniversary as we started our business January 9, 1994. We serve 20,000
square miles of Virginia and have grown to be one of the largest providers
in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We have over 275 employees and provide
both emergency and non-emergency transportation. We have recently been
awarded contracts to provide 911 services in the “Northern Neck” of
Virginia. Additionally, we are actively providing additional billing
services through our “Medix Billing Services” division.
What makes LifeCare Medical Transport Service unique? We have
grown and developed the business with our employees in mind. Since
establishing the business, we have reinvested revenues back into capital
improvements such as facilities, ambulances, equipment, etc. We would
venture to say that no other ambulance company in Virginia has committed
as much financial resources back into capital improvements as LifeCare. Hence,
we want our employees to be proud to come to work in the facilities that
we have constructed, the late model fleet of vehicles we operate, and
the “hands-on” approach that all of our managers have in the daily
operation of the business. We are committed to not only serving our
communities, but playing an active role in health care issues in the
areas we serve. Currently we are excitedly working on health care
awareness and fire prevention programs that will be hand delivered to
each of our patients and families at the time of transport.
Software programs utilized? We have used Sweet software since we
started in 1994, upgrading from A2000, then to Amazon billing in
1999. We were pleased
and honored to provide the beta test on Amazon when it first rolled out
and it has been exciting to see the changes and enhancements over the
years. In 2004, we converted our dispatch program to Sweet-CAD
and have integrated it with our billing program, saving many hours each
week tracking and entering calls into the billing system.
What advice would you offer other EMS services that you wish you may
have known when you first got into this business? Perseverance and
commitment to quality are the keys to success in the ambulance
industry. Every agency has something to offer, however, the caller on
the other end will always want professional courtesy and excellent
customer service.
Any
other information that you would like to include: We are always
appreciative of the positive relationship we have maintained with
Sweet/Ortivus over the years and are excited to look to the future for
more state-of-the-art improvements and technological enhancements to the
EMS system.
