Ortivus Awarded Contract For Sarasota County Fire Department

Ortivus was awarded the contract to supply an automated vehicle location (AVL) system to the Sarasota County (FL) Fire Department. The AVL system from Ortivus will work in tandem with another software system in order to extend the reach of the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system to 80 fire apparatus in the field. The Ortivus AVL system will collect GPS data from the field, and transfer it to the CAD system for display on map within the CAD.

Each fire apparatus will be equipped with a mobile workstation, installed with a real-time communication software and the AVeL-MobiCAD software. The AVeL-MobiCAD software provides mobile responders with on-board mapping for navigation purposes, and will display the best path on request – both on the map navigation and with turn-by-turn (driving) directions. When dispatched, AVeL-MobiCAD will also display the location of co-responders (other units responding to the same incident).

Ten battalion commanders will monitor vehicle displacements and incidents using ten additional AVeL-MobiCAD software licenses from their respective desktop workstations.

Assistant Fire Chief, Mike Tobias, said, "Our objectives in adding the new AVL system is to reduce response times to a scene and improve customer service by sending the appropriate response needed in the shortest time possible."
