Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Your Sweet Products

By the time this article is published, Microsoft will have already released a new version of its Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), SQL Server 2005. As many of you may be aware, Microsoft SQL Server is an integral part of your Sweet-Billing, Sweet-Field Data, and Sweet-CAD systems. SQL Server is the RDBMS that manages the data you enter into these applications.

The release of SQL Server 2005 brings many new and exciting changes; some of these changes are not fully supported in the 5.1.1 version of Sweet-Billing and Sweet-Field Data and version 5.0.4 of Sweet-CAD. At this time Ortivus North America (NA) is requiring customers to remain on SQL Server 2000 and NOT deploy SQL Server 2005. Deployment of SQL Server 2005 with version 5.1.1 of Sweet-Billing and Sweet-Field Data or version 5.0.4 of Sweet-CAD will result in failure of your Sweet program to operate properly. Ortivus NA is actively pursuing adding support for SQL Server 2005 into its products and anticipate a compatible release in 2006.

Current Microsoft Desktop Engine customers who would like to upgrade to another edition of SQL Server can do so; however, it must be an edition of SQL Server 2000. Through the Microsoft Open License program, Microsoft offers downgrade rights. Downgrade rights allow for the purchase of the SQL Server 2005 while legally allowing for the deployment of SQL Server 2000. SQL Server 2005 can then be deployed at a later date with no additional cost.
